The lives of our military service members are incredibly challenging. Aside from the obvious dangers of combat, service members face many challenges and concerns, including time away from family, relocations, and spouse unemployment or underemployment. And veterans say that access to health care and military benefits are their top concerns, according to Blue Star Families’ annual Military Family Lifestyle Survey.
All of those challenges are tough enough to deal with. Now add inflation, record-high gasoline prices and rising interest rates to the mix. This economic triple-whammy is difficult for all of us, but even more so for our veterans and service members. Serving our country is a selfless act – the heroes who answer the call risk their lives to protect all that we hold dear. And no amount of monetary compensation is commensurate with the sacrifice.
Fortunately, there are organizations that strive to help veterans and service members. One such organization is the Veterans Financial Services Advisory Council (VFSAC). VFSAC strives to address the ongoing needs of veterans and their families in search of support related to housing and critical services. And VFSAC works closely with Operation Homefront, a nonprofit whose mission is to build strong, stable and secure military families so they can thrive — not simply struggle to get by — in the communities they have worked so hard to protect.
I have close ties to VFSAC; I’m honored to serve as chairman for VFSAC, which recently held its 3rd Annual Golf Classic in Frisco, Texas. The goal of the Golf Classic is to raise funds in an effort to support our military veterans and their families for their service and the sacrifices they have made for us.
Rushmore Loan Management Services is an annual sponsor of the VFSAC Golf Classic. This year, we also served as co-host, and Rushmore’s All for Won core value was on full display as 100 Rushmore employees joined forces to volunteer and help ensure a successful event.
Events like the golf classic provide a big boost in our fundraising efforts, and they bring attention to the fact that more can be done to help our military families. If you are able, please consider helping our heroes at home as an act of gratitude for all they have done to protect us and our great nation.
